Ten AI Phrases We Use Too Often我们滥用的十个 AI 常用语

In 2013 I wrote a small list of phrases developers used too often. Twelve years later, the phrases have changed and the wincing has not. Here are ten I hear every week, and what each one usually means.2013 年,我列出了一份开发者滥用的短语清单。十二年过去了,短语变了,但那种让人尴尬的感觉却没变。以下是我每周都能听到的十个短语,以及它们通常代表的含义。

No company is named here, and nobody in particular is being described. I have said at least four of these out loud myself, which is how I know they are funny.文中不点名任何公司,也不针对任何人。我自己至少亲口说过其中四个,所以我知道它们有多好笑。

1. “We are an AI-first company.”1. “我们是一家 AI 优先的公司。”

Announced with a straight face by a company whose website search still cannot find its own pricing page.说这话的公司甚至连自家的定价页面都搜不到,但他们却能一本正经地宣布这一点。

Ten AI Phrases We Use Too Often ai-first-company

2. “AI will not replace you. A person using AI will.”2. “AI 不会取代你,使用 AI 的人会取代你。”

The most repeated sentence of the decade. Nobody has ever produced the study, the data, or even the name of the person who first said it. It is now quoted the way people quote scripture, which is to say confidently and slightly wrong.这是十年来被引用次数最多的一句话。没人能拿出相关的研究、数据,甚至连这句话是谁先说的都不知道。如今人们引用它就像引用圣经一样,既自信满满,又略显偏颇。

3. “It is not about replacing people, it is about freeing them up.”3. “这并不是要取代人类,而是为了解放人类。”

Freed up to do higher value work. The higher value work has not been named yet. Some of them get freed up so thoroughly that they are freed from the building.解放出来去做更有价值的工作。至于什么是“更有价值的工作”,至今还没人说得清。有些人被“解放”得太彻底,直接被“解放”出了公司大门。

Ten AI Phrases We Use Too Often freed-up

4. “Human in the loop.”4. “人在回路(Human in the loop)。”

One human. In the loop. At eleven at night. Holding the loop together with both hands while everyone else says the loop is fully automated.一个人,在回路中,深夜十一点。当其他人都在吹嘘系统已完全自动化时,只有他双手死死地撑着这个回路。

Ten AI Phrases We Use Too Often human-in-the-loop

5. “It is not a wrapper.”5. “它不是一个套壳(Wrapper)。”

It is a wrapper. A good wrapper is a perfectly respectable thing to build, and the denial is the only embarrassing part.它就是个套壳。做一个优秀的套壳本身是非常体面的事情,唯一让人尴尬的是死不承认。

6. “We do not need a DBA, the model tunes it.”6. “我们不需要数据库管理员(DBA),模型会自动调优。”

Every database person I know has a version of this story, and it always has the same shape. The confidence lasts about six weeks. Then somebody notices the reports are slower than last quarter, and the person who used to tune the database has been freed up to do higher value work somewhere else, at a competitor, for more money.我认识的每一位数据库专家都有类似的故事,套路如出一辙:这种自信通常能维持六周。然后有人发现报表比上个季度慢了,而当初那个负责调优数据库的人,已经被“解放”去竞争对手那里做更有价值的工作,还拿了更高的薪水。

7. “It hallucinated.”7. “它产生了幻觉(Hallucinated)。”

It made something up. We invented a gentle, faintly poetic word for a machine being wrong, while the word we use when a person is wrong is still just wrong.其实就是胡说八道。我们为机器犯错发明了一个温和、略带诗意的词,而当人犯错时,我们用的词依然只是“错误”。

8. “I built an entire startup in a weekend.”8. “我用一个周末就建立了一家完整的初创公司。”

It has a landing page, a waitlist, and a very confident font.它有一个落地页、一个等待名单,以及一种看起来非常自信的字体。

Ten AI Phrases We Use Too Often startup-in-a-weekend

9. “It is like having a junior developer.”9. “这就像拥有了一个初级开发人员。”

A junior developer who never learns, never sleeps, never asks a question, and deletes production with total confidence. The junior developers I have worked with grew up. This one starts every morning exactly as new as yesterday.一个永远学不会、从不睡觉、从不提问,却敢大摇大摆删除生产环境数据的初级开发人员。我共事过的初级开发人员都会成长,而这个“AI 助手”每天早上起来都和昨天一样,毫无长进。

Ten AI Phrases We Use Too Often junior-developer

10. “Five years of LLM experience required.”10. “要求五年 LLM(大语言模型)经验。”

In a job advertisement. For a technology that is three years old. I would love to meet the candidate, and I suspect so would the people who built it.出现在招聘启事里。而这项技术才问世三年。我很想见见这位候选人,我想开发这项技术的人也一定很想见见他。

One More Thing最后一点

None of this means the tools are bad. I use them daily and my work is better for it. It means we are all still reaching for the same twenty words while we figure out what we actually think, which is what people always do when something new arrives and nobody wants to look slow.这并不是说这些工具不好。我每天都在用,它们确实让我的工作更高效。这只是说明,当新事物出现时,为了不显得落伍,我们依然在重复那二十个陈词滥调,试图以此掩盖我们尚未理清思绪的事实。

In 2013 the list was “I can fix that” and “it works on my machine”. Twelve years later it is agents and guardrails and journeys. The technology moved. The instinct did not.2013 年,清单上是“我可以修复它”和“在我机器上运行正常”。十二年后,变成了代理(agents)、护栏(guardrails)和旅程(journeys)。技术进步了,但人类的本能没变。

Your turn. Tell me the one I missed, the phrase that makes you put your coffee down. I will run the best of them in a follow up, and I promise not to describe that as a journey.轮到你了。告诉我我漏掉了哪一个,哪句话让你听了想放下咖啡。我会选出最精彩的在后续文章中分享,我保证不会用“旅程”这个词来形容这件事。

This is not a complaint about the words, it is a reminder that the person saying them is usually trying to sound certain about something nobody is certain about yet.这并非对这些词的抱怨,而是一个提醒:说这些话的人,通常只是想对那些还没人能确定的事情表现得胸有成竹。
