) When an agent can spend money, something external to the agent has to decide what it is allowed to do. Custodian is a kernel that runs between the agent and real payments. The model proposes an action, the kernel approves or denies it, an operator kill switch can halt everything, and a cryptographic receipt records each decision. Custodian enforces this from outside the agent's own process, so every action an agent proposes has to clear the kernel before it runs. In the live demo it detected an agent that could rewrite its own policy file to grant itself payment authority, and it escalated that case to a human. The agent reads their inbox and identifies leads, runs a real pricing engine to draft estimates, and creates Stripe payment links to collect payment. The owner approves every action before anything goes out.
